In order to secure a job in the industry however, getting yourself a medical transcription certification can be a big help.
First, it's important to understand that to become a CMT, or Certified Medical Transcriptionist, you don't actually need the medical transcription certification. Also, there's a 2 years experience minimum required, which is something you'll need to take care of first.
Once you're ready to get the certification, you'll need to go through an exam process. Right now, the organization that administers this exam is Prometric, which has testing centers around the world. The CMT exam is just one of many that this organization administers, and to pass it, you need to register on their site for the location and date at which you'd like to pass the exam. Then, you will have to physically go to your nearest testing center, and answer questions in a limited amount of time. The exam itself isn't all that complicated, but you need to have the basic knowledge expected first, in order to succeed. There is a small fee to pass the exam, which you pay for when you register, and you need to provide proof of your identity. Be sure to bring in two photo IDs with you to the testing center. Usually, your result is processed very quickly, and you know if you passed or not. If you fail the exam, you can always take it again, but you will need to pay another fee.
